Last Vitus Dance tracking complete! [Jun. 1st, 2007|12:29 pm]
Gaia Consort Fans

Well, unless I change my mind, yesterday I played the last part for the Vitus Dance recording. Perils of Poly has all the parts and we mix on Wednesday. Sue and Ace have collaborated on the most AMAZING cover anywhere (Sue did the ouroborus and layout, Ace did the background and they both worked on the dragonfly see below) and we've got a start on the booklet. We're about $3,000 short of paying for everything via donations, so if you you'd like to donate and get your name in the liners notes, time is running short. You can also order an advance copy at http://www.gaiaconsort.com/adopt.html Read more...Collapse )

Tomorrow night (Thursday the 10th of May) I'm going to a benefit for the Hoh River Trust http://hohrivertrust.org (the event: http://www.hohrivertrust.org/Pages/hohDown.html)

The band isn't playing, but I'd love it if some of our friends & supporters would look into this organization and consider coming along to find out more about them. I've liked what I've seen so far, and had a wonderful conversation with their managing director.

You see, I had the unique experience of living at the Hoh Rainforst (on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State - here are a couple of pages with pictures: http://www.terragalleria.com/parks/np.olympic.3.html and http://travel.webshots.com/album/329049105BTnqEf ) for about 2 years when I was 11 and 12. It's really a unique place - sort of the quintissential temperate rainforest. These guys are dedicated to buying and restoring the land between the national park and the ocean, much of which is second or third growth, and with some work can be restored as habitat - if left on the market will continue to be logged, destroying streambeds and habitat for a number of species unique to the Olympic Peninsula; repairing the habitat and keeping this area from being logged. I think this is a real service, and am excited to support them. Chris and I want Gaia Consort to play a benefit for them, and they seem interested; I think if we show up at this fundraiser with some of our supporters they may be more interested yet...

So... check it out, and come along if you agree with me...
(sorry for double post, to folks on my list...)

Another tune mixed!!! [Feb. 16th, 2007|11:35 pm]

Mix number eight is up
What a day! poor Sue had a migraine that put her in bed ALL day. Jay and I mixed tune number eight on Vitus Dance, titled "Oracle." I hope you guys like it. I've finally managed to get some of the sounds I've been reaching for for awhile here...

To access the music just got to
http://www.gaiaconsort.com/vitusdance.html and click on the link that says "Final Mix" next to Oracle (three songs down the list.) Hope you like it!

Monday we start basics on the next three: one I'm currently calling "Post Vitus Dance" that will probebly end up being called "Vitus Dance"
(while the instrrumental begining turns into "Into the Realm"), a new one called "The Green" and finally after years of digesting the thing in the back of my head, "Perils of Poly"

I'm starting to think the album will be finished with twelve tunes - it all depends one the ideas and how they connect.

Life is good! We're getting stuff done. Unfortunately it's looking like we'll release sometime this Fall, because summer is not a great time to release a record if you want folks to show up at the release party. You guys may have discs by mid summer, but the stores probably won't have 'em til Sept.

Thanks for making this happen!

Call for Art (for my use in creating cover art...) [Dec. 15th, 2006|10:59 pm]

(sorry for double posting if you're on my friends list too..)

Hey folks... you know how I create the cover art for gaiaconsort's CDs, right? well, here's the deal - I have some ideas, but need models - the image is based on two dancing figures; one male and one female - elfin in stature (though I can work with beautifully posed figures of other than elfin size if the pose is good and I can make out where the articulation is happening...) - this would be for me to use as models for a drawing, so background makes no difference, so long as it doesn't obscure the joints or important muscle groups... nude would be preferred, but clothing is ok if it doesn't obliterate said joints and muscle groups.

the idea is that the figures are dancing in rapturous abandon... either in profile to camera or facing ...

if you have photos that might possibly fit this description (or care to make them,or know someone who might be interested)- **AND** are willing to donate their use to the Vitus Dance album project, please contact me as soon as possible at stinney at gaiaconsort dot com

I am, of course, happy to give credit as well :-D

Chris is having such fun, now he's figured out how to turn video into post-able clips... there's a pretty neat one of Evolve from the Oct. 8 2004 show up here:

I like that it's got a fair amount of Matthew in it - that's the percussionist who's behind me... I love his energy, he was *such* fun on stage...

feel free to share!! *bounce*

Shows, gratitude, speculation [Oct. 17th, 2006|11:36 am]

Man, the show Saturday was just really, really good. We can always play better, but the show had a lots of "right on" moments, and I only lost a few words. Mostly on tunes I've been doing for 15 years. Haven't heard the recordings yet, but I'm looking forward to "Secret of the Crossroads Devil" - I think we nailed it.

And OMFG we are so lucky to have people like Read more...Collapse )

Register to vote THIS WEEK [Oct. 15th, 2006|01:14 pm]

[Current Mood |awake]

As Chris told people to vote 3 (or was it 4) times last night, I figured this would not be out of place.

In Washington State:

  • The date of the Primary Election is Tuesday, November 7.
  • If you are not already registered to vote in Washington, you can register in person at your county elections department until 15 days before the election.
  • Fifteen days before Tuesday the 7th would be Monday the 23rd...but I'd plan to visit the county elections office by THIS Friday, the 20th, just to be safe.

Want to know where your county elections office is? You can look it up here.

More info on the election is on the Washington State Elections site.
